Tiffany Wickham, mentee
My name is Tiffany Naomi Wickham, I am a 15yearold from Guyana, living in New York City, who’s striving to be one of the best teen writers. I consider myself a writer and media maker because writing is my favorite thing to do on a rainy day. When an idea comes to mind and I am in a position when I can't write a story, I will write down the idea in my phone or anyway possible. I consider myself a media maker because I write stories and publish stories. I am especially passionate about fiction, nonfiction and the young adult genre. Some of my stories are published on Miss Literate ,Wattpad and Quotev. My latest story I’m working on is called "EmO Extraordinary * Magnificent * Outstanding". My goals as a writer is to publish a book and become America’s #1 bestseller. However, like other teenagers, I like doing other things besides writing. I love going to the movies and hanging out with my friends.
Paola Messina, mentor
My name is Paola Cossermelli Messina and I consider myself a writer and media maker because there is nothing I love more than to create and share in other people’s creations, through words, sounds and images. I’m especially interested in fiction, non-fiction (especially oral histories), music and radio. To establish a connection and break through to an audience on a human level is always my ultimate goal. I have had works published in Brazilian media outlets such as O Estado de São Paulo, Revista BMF Bovespa, and on websites such as TinyMixTapes.com. I’m an avid comic book reader and have very stubborn opinions about them. I also relish any and all opportunities to make music (via the bass, ukulele or guitar) and shoot some hoops.
The piece was inspired by Tiffany's interest in basketball and her wish to play the sport. We recorded the short story written by Tiffany in a studio at The New School and edited it in Pro Tools.
