Adelin Pimental, mentee
My name is Adelin Pimentel and I was born in the Dominican Republic. I came to this country in 2009 with the passion of learning, and improving my writing skills and speaking skills since English is not my first language. In 2012, I wrote a play and in 2013 I wrote another play with the Theater Development Program at my school. One of my plays got produced in the Snapple Theater performed by professional actors. Also, I have written poems. I’m interested in writing realistic fiction because I enjoy putting real things with fiction. I also, like science, but not math. And I like spending most of my time writing.
Anna Meriano, mentor
My name is Anna Meriano. I am an MFA student at The New School, where I study writing for children. My genre is fiction--both novels and short stories--with some playwriting here and there. My stories have been published in R2, an undergraduate literary magazine, and Martel College Theater produced my play High School Trig in 2012. My primary goal when writing is to entertain, but I also want my writing to include underrepresented problems, characters, and points of view. In my spare time, I play Muggle Quidditch in Central Park.
I wrote a poem based on a trip that I had in Nicaragua. I wrote it, to show the work that women do there but men don't see it and treat them like nothing. My poem is called "Ants" I called it ants because ants work really hard and humans just want to eliminate them.
